The 50s

The beginnings

The winery was founded at the end of the 50s when Mr. Piero Roveda, passing by chance in Elba due to a malfunction of his sailboat, fell in love with the locality of Acquabona and decided to buy the land together with his partner, Camillo Bianchi.

THE 80S

Change at the helm

After a few years of running-in, in 1987, the management of the company was entrusted to three young agronomists, who relaunched the business by applying the most modern criteria for the cultivation of vineyards and winemaking, with a production orientation as natural as possible, attentive to the protection of the environment, as well as to the typicality and genuineness of the wine.

1987-2024

The expansion

The fascinating story of Marcello Fioretti, Lorenzo Capitani and Ugo Lucchini lasts 37 years, leading Acquabona to be one of the largest wineries on the Island of Elba, with 15 hectares of vineyards and more than 10 labels.

2024

A new relaunch

On May 3, 2024, the new generation enters the scene, consisting of Federico Capitani and Riccardo Fioretti, sons of Marcello and Lorenzo, Federico Ballati, former winemaker of Acquabona, and Pietro Vallardi, grandson of Piero Roveda.

The future is in good hands

The new team, full of ideas and enthusiasm, is a perfect mix of complementary skills, ensuring continuity with the past thanks to Federico C. and Riccardo, enriched with the entrepreneurial vision and innovativeness of Federico B. and Pietro.

An explosive team, a puzzle of perfectly complementary skills, with the aim of consolidating Acquabona as a distinctive reality on the Island of Elba, and gradually strengthening its positioning in Italy and abroad.

Federico C.

Born in Elba, he graduated in agricultural technologies at the University of Bologna.
Tireless like his father Lorenzo who passed on his passion for the land and who handed down to him the role of “guardian” of the vineyard.
Federico knows every single vine of the 15 hectares cultivated and takes care of them every day.

Richard

Also born in Elba, he graduated in agricultural science and technology at the University of Florence.
He mainly deals with administration and sales but, knowing the world of wine at 360 degrees and being a great history buff, he is also able to excite tourists with guided tastings and tours of the vineyard and cellar.

Federico B.

Born in Follonica, he graduated in oenology at the University of Pisa.
Calling him an “oenologist” is an understatement.
In addition to producing wines of the highest quality, he has great vision for all aspects concerning business management.
His only goal is to make Acquabona grow and make it known all over the world.

Peter

Milanese DOC, graduated in business administration from Bocconi.
He is the team member with economic-financial and business strategy skills, thanks to his experience in management consulting.
Methodical, structured, but above all in love with Acquabona, like his grandfather Piero.
He is responsible for commercial activity outside the island and communication/marketing.

WHY WE DO IT

The Acquabona reality represents at the same time the past and the future of the Island of Elba.
Passed because the farm, already in its third generation, rests on hectares of land that smell of history.
Future because Acquabona, unlike many realities around Italy and the world, has really been able to “look beyond”, without any fear of embarking on a new path, enhancing what had previously been done and bringing new elements where necessary.

Here, today’s Acquabona embodies respect for history, territory, tradition, family, flanked by innovation and sustainability as the new milestones of our daily life.

Tradition

We are 4 young people with a lot of enthusiasm and desire to do, but we are well aware of the value of tradition.
We are writing a new story, but always respecting what was previously.
We don’t want to destroy, but to make the foundations solid and build something new.

Territory

We are lucky enough to work in a wonderful context, not only the Island of Elba, but also and above all the Acquabona.
For this reason, the least we can do is to enhance the territory in all its nuances, in synergy with the nearby Golf Acquabona, to make Elba and the people of Elba known in the world.

Community

We are an integral part of the Elba community, we are committed every day to establishing sincere and lasting relationships with all the components of the supply chain, from employees and suppliers to restaurateurs and hotels, up to the best local realities that have nothing in common with wine.

Innovativeness

Innovativeness and not innovation, because the key to success is a matter of long-term mentality, not a single isolated episode.
We try to experiment as much as possible in every aspect of the company, keeping an open mind, without any fear of change.

Sustainability

We are one of the first generations to be born with climate change.
We feel deeply responsible and, albeit in our own small way, we want to make a “difference” and become an example of sustainability in the agricultural field.

Partendo da questi valori come base portante, Acquabona punta a essere la realtà vitivinicola di riferimento dell’Isola d’Elba e a far conoscere l’Elba nel mondo. Vogliamo raggiungere questo obiettivo rispecchiando l’unicità del nostro terroir in prodotti di altissima qualità, promuovendo allo stesso tempo un forte senso di comunità e legame con il territorio con l’impegno per pratiche sostenibili e di rispetto per la nostra terra.
